Executive Chef

Witty and wildly creative – Jonathan learned to cook from his southern grandmother Hattie, who taught him how to make homemade bread, confections, and southern delicacies at an early age. He began cooking professionally at 15 – working in Thai, Mexican, Vietnamese, and Indian kitchens – honing his love for food into an art of world cuisine.

Post college, Jonathan’s culinary adventures took him from Prague, where he helped open the first vegan restaurant in eastern Europe, to Washington D.C. – where he worked under Nora Pouillion at America’s first certified organic restaurant, Restaurant Nora. Eventually, Jonathan landed in Los Angeles, serving as Chef De Cuisine for John Sedlar of Saint Estephe and Rivera before joining Urban Palate.

Today, Jonathan loves exploring Los Angeles’ broad ethnic food scene, gathering inspiration with his wife and baby in tow.



Founder Geoffrey Bernstein started the company in 2001 with the goal to make Urban Palate a premiere LA boutique catering company that would consistently deliver local, seasonal and sustainable cuisine and superior service to wedding, social and corporate clients. Over the 19+ years, he has successfully grown the company and it has emerged as a top SoCal catering company synonymous with creating delicious food and providing impeccable service for any occasion.

Recently relocating the UP office to downtown LA, Geoff outfitted a full-service kitchen and tasting room to meet the needs of UP’s growing business. In the new beautiful space, the UP family feeds off of the amazing energy of the rapidly expanding ARTS District to plan, create and serve exceptional food.


Events Director

Elizabeth brings an abiding love for food, events, and design to her role at Urban Palate. After more than ten years producing fabulous and high profile fundraising galas and weddings in Philadelphia and NYC, she followed the sun across the country and now calls Venice home. From celebrity-studded Oscar parties to intimate private dinners, her events always feature an element of surprise, more than a touch of drama, and lots of color.

Elizabeth’s home is her laboratory, where pattern, vibrancy and eclecticism reign supreme. The decorating and prop styling magic she creates there has been featured in publications including Anthology Magazine.

In her spare time, Elizabeth stalks flea markets and collects vintage, first edition novels. She also enjoys riding her bike in heels and holding small, adorable kittens.
